The SPY had a late day save friday after dipping below the 50 day. Friday was the first time since this entire uptrend began in April that even tested below the 50 day. I don’t have historical data but 7 months between tests under the 50 day is probably rare historically. What I will say is this, this chart still does not look good, we’re still about to have the 8 ema cross below the 21 ema. That isn’t good. I know everyone on Twitter is bulled up after the friday close, I think that was just more not many want to stay short into the weekend with the greatest stock pumping President we’ve ever seen in office. We saw how the market reacted friday to a potential deal on re-opening the government.

On the weekly chart, we have our third move below the 8 week but no closes yet. We’re teetering on the edge, but nothing confirming a weekly loss of trend yet. Look at the bearish divergence where we keep rising higher as the rsi keeps rolling over. I definitely think caution is still warranted regardless of the friday afternoon move.

This week’s best idea is a name that just had its highest weekly close since August and is looking like it wants to breakout as we enter winter. It’s an energy name and that sector had alot of relative strength this week. I wrote this name up 13 months back here and it has risen just over 50% since. Remember these weekend best ideas are names I think you can tuck away commons for a longer term trade, not many energy names are up 50% since I wrote this one up, even leaders like Exxon are actually negative since that time. We’re going to discuss a few different options trades to potentially profit from.
