Today is the last recap of this year as I said yesterday there are only 4.5 sessions left this year and the volumes are just dried up. Nobody is really around trading right now. Next thursday January 2nd I will return with all the daily recaps and weekend best ideas. There isn’t much to say, it was a phenomenal year for me, in the market, I’m sure most of you did great too. If you did post your returns down in the comments, lets see who the big winner was this year. Me, the final numbers, not the ones from 2 weeks ago have me finishing up around 70% for the year. Considering how few trades I took this year while dealing with my dad in the hospital, I’m more than thrilled that I beat the market by well over 2x. Other than that summer dip in Amazon that got my leaps hammered, it was smooth sailing all year with the few other trades I put on like Apple and Four. I don’t think I could have done more with less with my book this year and I think its something for all of you to think about going forward in terms of trading less and letting positions work, but using more leverage on the trades you have with conviction.
And going back to the early days here I’m going to wrap this year up 330% since inception vs 48% for the S&P and 61% for the Nasdaq. Beating the Nasdaq by 5x over the last 2.5 years now was no easy feat, it felt like that the market just went up everyday in that timeframe, but appropriate use of leverage led to some nice gains.
The good news is I’m going to probably sell some things here into year end probably everything I have except my AMZN call spread in the next few sessions. I haven’t really made up my mind but that’s what I think I will do. My thinking is now that my obligations to be at the hospital everyday are over, I want to get back to trading, I used to post my book everyday here back in 2022/early 2023 and I haven’t done that since last May because I’ve been so busy with my dad. Starting next year, I’d like to do that again as I finally have time again to focus on the market. My large Amazon trade I’m holding onto because as a 170/250 call spread it is barely over 50% of its final value which is $80 in 2026 if Amazon goes over 250 by then. Overall I’m in a really great spot with that Amazon trade and I don’t really need much just a 10% return on Amazon next year and I will make another 75% on my position.
As I said yesterday tomorrow I will turn off the current subscription and everyone who wants access to the live portion of the discord will be able to access it with a monthly subscription that will be available then through the end of the year. Now that I will be back and actively trading, as I always did I will always post what I take in the live part everyday as I’m working before it shows up in the recap.
Congrats on the great year, enjoy your holidays whatever one it is you celebrate and I will see you all next week in the new year.
12/23 Recap
The SPY is trying its hardest to reclaim the 50 day but it is still well below the 8 and 21 ema, the bearish trend remains in place until we get over it. We got a big move in semis today and tech is really trying to stop the bleeding, but we are not out of the woods yet. These last few sessions with the volume being so low its hard to gauge much about the moves because they’re going to be on such low volume. Look at the volume so far today, it is abysmal and will be into early next year.
Recent Trades
TARS - In the 11/19 recap here I noted this large put sale on this small biotech. It is up 18% since and these these puts sold are likely going worthless next month with the stock up near 55 now.
Today’s Unusual Options Activity
Here is today’s link to the database, since this is the last recap of the year I will leave this link open until I return on January 2nd. I won’t be updating it, but if you want to sift through and find things to trade, have at it. I really do suggest you take a few days off, look this has been an insane 2 year run, it won’t always be this easy and you should take a breather when and where you can. There is no volume and nothing worth trading these last 4.5 sessions of the year. This wednesday the market is closed and next wednesday it is closed as well.
